HOW TO CHOOSE A GUN ?

These are the wrong reasons to purchase a gun:

-By the reputation of the manufacturer.

-It looks pretty in pink and it's cute.

-Maybe by the type of the sights.

-The gun that my neighbor in the police force carries.

-My husband, boyfriend or other family member TOLD ME TO BUY THIS.

-Movies.

The considerations for choosing a gun are:

1. The purpose for purchasing the gun? Event shooting, Self-defense, Hunting and Training.

2. The type of ammunition-caliber.

3. The type of action on the gun - Single Action/Double Action.

4. The fit in the hand of the shooter.

5. The amount of ammunition in the magazine.

CALIBER

- 380/9mm: Minimum caliber for self-defense.

-.22, .25, .32: A smaller caliber, does not have the basic ability to serve
as a self-defense type round.

-.357, .40, .45, .44spl. Recommended as best for self-defense and stopping power.

TYPE OF ACTION- Personal Preference
There are two types of action:

1. Single Action: Once the hammer is cocked when the trigger is pulled, the hammer drops and causes the round to be fired.

2. Double Action: The trigger has the ability to cock the hammer and then release the hammer in one pull.

A Partial List of Single and Double Action Guns:

-1911 - Single Action

-Glock - Single Action

THE COMFORT/FIT

The gun can be a personal tool for self-defense. It is very important to have the correct fit.

Do not be convinced to buy a gun that someone else considers the perfect gun.

Try a few different guns until you find the right gun that feels like it was designed and built especially for you. Do not just hold it in your hand; actually shoot the gun at the range.

Even if an "expert" tells you that a certain gun is "the best in the world" and this gun is not fitting your hand, DO NOT BUY IT.

THE AMOUNT OF AMMUNITION

New guns sold inthe US are typically sold with the average of 10-13 magazine rounds of ammuniton.

If you need more rounds, then you need to carry extra magazines or go to aftermarket magazines. Revolvers come with five, six or seven rounds.

IF YOU NEED MORE THAN A FEW ROUNDS PER TARGET - DO NOT SHOOT.

The decision to purchase a gun is very important and sometimes very expensive. You need to decide ONLY when you are sure of all of the above points.
